Winnipeg Canoeing Ideas

Looking for Winnipeg Attractions Just Off the Water?

You might have seen our Self-Guided River Tours and are asking yourself “What would my friends and I do with a boat in the middle of the week unless we have vacation time or days off work?” Or maybe you’re looking for a new summer outing to enjoy with the kids or that special someone on those warm summer evenings when you’re stuck in the city. Well, here’s the answer! We are fortunate to live in a City through which 2 major rivers run with a number of surrounding tributaries. The Assiniboine, the Red, the Seine, the LaSalle, and the Brokenhead all within our reach for an evening paddle. We’re avid paddlers and have explored these waters ourselves and would like to share with you some Winnipeg attractions that you can take in just off the water.

Make your way down the Red to Lockport and grab hotdogs. Paddle along the walk way at the Forks and cable the canoe to a tree while you walk up to Union station for an ice cream or out for supper. All along these rivers are small city parks that offer an excellent opportunity to pull up out of the water and have a picnic. Kildonan Park even has a dock for you to use and plenty of trails to explore before getting back into the canoe. Set in on the LaSalle and take out at St. Norbert Provincial Heritage Park where this meandering river meets with the Red. Spend the afternoon and go for a tour of the historic buildings or drop your line in the water and catch a master angler. Take in one of these activities with a nephew, niece, or younger sibling for some bonding time, or you could always plan a little romantic excursion for you and your beloved to spend quality time together.
